Woodland Garden

“Imagine a world where the lines were harsh and unyielding, the textures were consistent and variation is unheard of. Does it inspire you?
Now imagine a place where the carpet changes every day, the ceiling is a myriad of different colours, light, shadow and movement. The feelings and movement completely surround you, sometimes breezy, sometimes cold, others warm. Unexpected wonders fly by, sometimes full of colour and sometimes full of noise and movement.
If we really want children to thrive we need to let their connection to nature nurture them.”

(Nurture Through Nature, Claire Warden 2007)

Little Cherubs has been fortunate in acquiring the use of some private land to carry out our outdoor learning and Forest Learning sessions.

Spending extended and regular time in the woods allowing us to observe the seasonal changes and make discoveries and this resource provides the best opportunities to meet our early learning goals.

We aim to bring each child on as many trips as we can to our Secret Forest. This is a private piece of land for our use only and not for the general public. This adds to the mystery and intrigue for the children and allows us flexibility to visit whenever we like.

It is a versatile area which we can adapt to our needs. We have created a story corner, natural mud slide, bird hide, arches, wigwams and more.

View the photos to see the fun and exploring we have done!

Highlights from the Secret Forest

Painting with nature

We are so fortunate to have our own area of private land where the children can create, explore and play. This weeks trips involved making our paint with herbs and spices and our own paintbrushes using what we could find in the forest around us. This activity engaged our sense of smell, and developed our…

Discoveries in the woods

Something very exciting and wonderful happened today when our Forest trekkers went exploring. We came up with some rules (getting the children to risk assess-after Rianne and Louise…

Forest learning problem solving

At Little Cherubs we follow the Forest school ethos and believe child led play out doors provides the best outcomes for children. Today we had a dilemma, our slide was full of rain water when we arrived! ‘How can we go on the slide now?’ ‘Where did all the water come from?’ ‘The leaves are…
