Outdoor learning

How lucky are we to be surrounded by such rich opportunities to immerse ourselves in nature?
The best classroom is roofed only by the sky”-Margaret McMillan.
Today our Little Cherubs trekked to our favourite spot to collect a variety of textured leaves and sticks. The children used mathematical describing words such as ‘big, small, tall, long, spikey, smooth’. We made nature paintbrushes from our findings and experimented with making our own paint, prompting lots of mark making exploration and discussion about our pictures. Next, we encountered a large, muddy puddle. We can’t go over it, we can’t go under it, so of course, we went straight through it! Wading through the puddle taught us about capacity, depth and also risk management and awareness- an important life long skill. So much fun and so many amazing learning opportunities to experience.
