Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
What is the EYFS?
The EYFS was established to ensure that every child gets a better start in life, no matter where he or she goes to nursery. The EYFS provides safety and welfare guidelines and goals that child care providers must help children achieve, an outline of specific areas of learning and development that are important for each age, and assessment measures for calculating children’s progress.

EYFS aims to provide consistency across nursery settings, a stable and healthy foundation for a love of learning, equality of opportunity for all children, and a strong partnership between child care providers and parents.

Our EYFS Curriculum
Every child in our nursery is assigned a key person who is charged with protecting the child’s health and welfare. We recognise each child as a unique and gifted individual, and strive to nurture the individual talents of every child. Our curriculum focuses on the following seven key areas, as outlined by EYFS:

Communication and language development
We expose children to active and consistent communication, and afford each child the opportunity to express themselves. We help our children learn to talk in a variety of settings, and to use their communication skills wisely and intelligently.

Physical development
We know that, when the body thrives, so do the mind and spirit. We offer our children plenty of time to be active in both structured and unstructured settings. We encourage movement that develops coordination, agility, and skill.

Personal, social, and emotional development
We believe that each and every interaction affords children the chance to learn new social skills, and we don’t take this information lightly. We model good communication and social skills, help children master appropriate group behaviour, and foster respect for others by modelling respect for each child.

Literacy development
We know one of the best ways to encourage a love of reading is to read to children daily. We give children access to many different reading materials, tailor our reading selection to children’s interests, and help children develop the foundational knowledge they need to become excellent readers.

Mathematics
We offer children daily opportunities to understand numbers, master counting, describe and understand shapes and locations, and develop a lifelong love of mathematics.

Understanding the world
We know that children are most interested in the world when the world is made relevant to them. We nurture your child’s interest in the surrounding world by talking about important developments, encouraging children to talk about their experiences, and helping children explore the ways different communities live.

Expressive art and design
We allow our children to express themselves creatively every day, and we give children access to a broad variety of creative materials to aid them in expressing themselves. We know that technology is the wave of the future, and we encourage our children to embrace and use technological devices in healthy, learning-centered ways.

We know that children learn best when learning is fun, engaging, and person-centered. We provide our children with many opportunities to play, explore, and experience the world, and we embrace active learning rather than passive instruction. We encourage children’s critical thinking, and we listen to our children.
We welcome input from parents, and we provide a tailored, individualised program to meet each and every child’s needs.
