Saplings & Oaklings Rooms 3-4 Years
Learning in Preschool
In the Oaklings and Saplings Room, experienced, passionate practitioners plan engaging invitations to play based on the children’s emerging interests, their developmental milestones and by following the EYFS framework.
We don’t do worksheets or Phonics lessons and yet, the children still go to school ready to take the next steps in their journey.
Instead, the children are exposed to literacy and numeracy through carefully considered environmental enhancements, and day to day planning, so they are learning through play with their friends.
Take a look at our educational, engaging activities that the children have access to during their nursery days.

School Readiness
Throughout the year, we encourage school readiness by focusing on the three Prime Areas of the EYFS. We develop the children’s skills in the form of independence, confidence and self-care using the Pathway to School document from the government as guidance.
Throughout the year we will keep you updated and informed about your child through the following events:
-Coffee, Cake and Preschool updates in August
-Primary School Transition forum in February
– Coffee and a Catch-up in March
-Fortnightly developmental observations throughout the year

Outdoor Learning
The children in their Pre-School year have priority on the trips to the Cherubs Forest. Your child will experience 2 trips per month to our Cherubs Forest, with the main trips rota running in Spring and Summer.
Outdoor Learning gives children contact with the natural world and offers them experiences that are unique only to the outdoors, such as direct contact with the weather and the seasons.
In recent years we have seen a reduction to the access and use of the outdoors for many young children. A number of factors are blamed, including an increased fear of parents for their children’s safety, and technological advances such as television and computer games which are leading to a more sedentary lifestyle. However, the developmental needs of young children have remained constant and the outdoor environment continues to be essential to children’s health, development and well-being.

Diversity and Culture
In Preschool, we celebrate the children’s varying nationalities through our Culture Week’s.
Every month, one country is chosen and the families are invited to come to nursery to teach the children about their heritage. In this week we learn simple words in another language, look at local artists, try traditional foods and look at traditional clothing.
Our Culture Weeks are a great way to ensure all children and families feel included and valued for who they are.
