Missing Child Policy

Children’s safety is maintained as the highest priority at all times both on and off premises.. In the unlikely event of a child going missing, our missing and is presumed missing the following action is taken:

  • As soon as it is noticed that a child is missing the staff member discovering that the child is missing will alert the manager/deputy
  • The Manager/Deputy calls the police and reports the child as missing and then calls the parent.
  • ·The staff member discovering that a child is missing will liaise with the other staff members in the room, gather the children together and the register will be called. The register is checked to make sure no other child has also gone astray
  • The Manger/Deputymanager in charge and as many staff as possible whilst still maintaining staff ratio’swill carry out a thorough search of the building and garden. Doors and gates are checked to see if there has been a breach of security whereby a child could wander out
  • The Manager/Deputy manager in charge  will then follow all instructions given by the Police
  • Once the Parents/guardians arrive at the nursery they will be informed of the situation and reassured
  • The incident will be recorded in the incident and accident book and Registration and inspections will be informed
  • The Manager /Deputy in Charge contacts the Directors of Little Cherubs Kindergarten and reports the incident.
  • The Directors of Little Cherubs Kindergarten will immediately carry out an investigation with the Manager.
  • A thorough investigation will be carried out and any amendments of policies and procedures that need to be carried out will be implemented immediately to ensure that an incident of this nature could not reoccur.
